A Chance to Connect

St. Joseph Church has been MADO Healthcare Old Town’s neighbor for nearly 60 years.  For close to 20 of the last years, the Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph Parish has organized a volunteer led, community gathering for MADO clients.  Each month, for 9 months out of the year, clients are invited to the parish for a chance to gather, play bingo and spend time with neighbors.  As part of the ICSJ ministry, parishioners work to solicit donations for this event.  Everything from food, treats, clothing, jackets, shoes and gifts.  MADO Healthcare’s Activity Director, Megan Bosma collaborates with ICSJ Parish volunteers, Colleen Meehan and Anita Holmes and their team of volunteers to setup this recurring event for our clients.

Events like this are an example of the partnerships with neighbors that are purposeful and impactful.  Clients have the opportunity to connect with peers, neighbors and nearby parishioners.  By convening for a gathering outside their own environments, clients are given the opportunity to enhance interpersonal skills and help them increase confidence and independence on their individual paths to wellness. MADO Healthcare is full of gratitude and appreciation for our parish neighbors in Old Town and for the care, dedication and desire to connect that has spanned generations.
