Since 1961

MADO Healthcare was established in 1961 by Mary and Dan O’Brien. They sought to serve specialized healthcare and social service needs of individuals living within metropolitan Chicago. The company’s name, MADO, is an acronym for the founders’ names.

Today, MADO Healthcare Centers, led by Peter O’Brien, Sr., operates as a system of three Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facilities and one skilled and intermediate care Nursing Home.

MADO Healthcare, as a third-generation healthcare provider, works in collaboration with hospitals, social service organizations and communities to provide the highest quality of services and supports for its clients.

The company is steadfast as an advocate to promote mental health awareness to end mental health stigma in attitude and practice. In 2020, MADO’s three Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facilities earned a CARF International accreditation. Consistent with CARF standards, MADO Healthcare operates residential treatment programs in which the persons served reside and receive services from personnel who are trained in the delivery of services for persons with behavioral health disorders or co-occurring diagnoses. These services are provided in a safe, trauma-informed, recovery-focused milieu designed to transition the person served into a more independent community setting. The CARF process validates that MADO Healthcare provides care in a manner that meets or exceeds national standards. MADO Healthcare’s longevity in the mental and behavioral healthcare industry is a testament to the company’s ever evolving approach to the best care possible.
