The Army Reserves: Basic Training to Clinical Psychology

Jade Austin began working with MADO Healthcare in the Fall of 2016.  She joined the team as the Therapeutic Recreation Director, supervising the Activity Departments at MADO Healthcare- Buena Park and MADO Healthcare- Old Town as well as planning and organizing events and the client supported vegetable and flower gardens at all 4 MADO locations.   She grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and after attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Jade moved to Chicago to pursue work in the mental health field.  Working with MADO confirmed her desire to pursue further work in this field. “The resiliency and optimism of our clients has been inspiring to me”, Jade recalls.  Recently, Jade made the decision to enroll in a Clinical Psychology PhD program to pursue a career as a Psychologist.  Jade’s pathway to realize this career pursuit will involve another interest, that of joining the US Army Reserves to help her fulfill that dream.  “The Army is allowing me to go back to school and I get to continue to serve others in the meantime.”

Jade left her position with MADO at the end of December 2017 to begin her Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training with the Reserves at Fort Leonard Wood in Michigan.  She plans to return to work at MADO in the Fall of 2018.  “I’d really like to thank the staff and clients at MADO Healthcare for being so supportive of my decision to join the Reserves.  The clients have shown me so much love, and in the short time I’ve been with the company I’ve been lucky to have met many incredible people who give so much of themselves to others.”  All of us at MADO Healthcare wish Jade the very best.  We thank her for her service and we look forward to welcoming her back to MADO and watching her dreams of becoming a Psychologist unfold.  Good luck Jade!
